MANILA, Philippines – Listed Basic Energy Corp. has signed a deal with four companies to study the feasibility of producing methane from wastes at the San Mateo landfill for electricity generation.
In a disclosure to the stock exchange Monday, Basic Energy said it signed the deal with New Kanlaon Construction, Inc., Integrated Environwaste Processors Corp., and Koreans Re-Tech Solution Co. Ltd. and Eco-Frontier Co. Methane is a flammable gas from decaying waste that may be converted into electricity.
In an interview, Basic Energy President and Chief Operating Officer, Oscar L. de Venecia, Jr. said they had started gathering data and would start the study before the year ends. Power from the plant is expected to reach five to 10 megawatts. — Ava Kashima K. Austria, BusinessWorld
